Women's Cross Country Finishes 15th Overall, Men 29th At New England Championships
This wraps up the 2012 season for the Lyons.
The Wheaton College cross country teams competed at the NCAA New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park, hosted by Westfield State University. The Wheaton women placed 15th overall out of 51 teams while the men ranked 29th out of 50 squads in their final meet of the 2012 season.
On the women's side, MIT captured first place honors with 58 points while Williams ranked second overall (75) and Middlebury checked in at third (89). In the men's race, Middlebury finished first overall with 91 points, Bowdoin placed second (101) and Bates came in at third overall (105).
Freshman Georgia Crane (Greenwich, Conn./School of the Holy Child) paced the Lyons with a 59th place finish overall in 22 minutes and 56.92-seconds on the 6-kilometer layout. Classmate Jordan Silva (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) also turned in a top-100 finish as she crossed the line in 23:14.16, good enough for 77th overall.
Junior Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) led a trio of Wheaton harriers with a 109th place finish in a time of 23:51.04. Sophomore Sonrisa O'Toole (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional) checked in closely behind in 110th place (23:53.67) while freshman Dagmara Sobczyk (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) rounded out the Lyons top-five runners in 111th overall (23:53.75).
For the men, sophomore Harry Bachrach (Watertown, Mass./Beaver Country Day School) posted the top finish for Wheaton with a 122nd place showing in 27 minutes and 25.36-seconds on the 8-kilometer course.
Senior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) ranked 130th overall in 27:30.58 and junior Nick Emard (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) was 198th overall (28:46.64).
Freshmen Jonathan Sproule (Trenton, Main/Mount Desert Island) and Miles Bolton (Brooklyn, N.Y./NEST+m) rounded out the top-five with times of 28:56.12 (204th overall) and 29:33.23 (226th overall), respectively.
