Wheaton's Denorfia Returns With San Diego Padres
Former Lyon All-American delivered RBI single in loss to Red Sox.
Former Wheaton College baseball standout Chris Denorfia returned to Massachusetts Monday night, batting lead off and playing right field for the San Diego Padres in their 14-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Denorfia, who is one of the top pinch-hitters in the National League, had an RBI single for the Padres, who were tied with the Red Sox, 3-3, before Boston scored 10 runs in the seventh inning.
On the year, Denorfia is batting .304 in 63 games in his sixth major league season. A Connecticut native and Wheaton All-American, the righthanded hitter is a lifetime .285 hitter with 17 HR and 69 RBI.
The Padres will be back at Fenway Tuesday night to play the Red Sox in the second game of a three-game series.
