What's Going on Near the Reservoir Street Dam?
Embankment repairs being done.
Patch readers Catherine Webber and Linda Davis recently asked what kind of work is being done to the Reservoir Street dam.
“Fall Town Meeting members approved the capital improvement budget to include the embankment repairs at the location,” answered conservation agent Jennifer Corlino.
Per the Office of Dam Safety regulations, all woody vegetation along the embankment will be removed and re-vegetated with loam and seed. T Ford Company is installing footings, a training wall and a drain at the toe of the slope on one side of the dam and stabilizing the embankment on the other side with stone. The upstream banks will also receive armoring to help stabilize the dam. Wetland is being replicated on the site in the same river reach as the portion of wetland that is being altered.
“All work is being done in compliance with permits from the Office of Dam Safety and the Conservation Commission,” Corlino said.
Work will be done in two phases. Current construction will go until the end of December and will resume after mud season next year.
