This Is The Golden Era Of Boston Sports

Bruins win the Cup and bring another title to Sportstown, U.S.A.

Boston is the sports capitol of the world – let there be no doubt. Congratulations to the Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins.

The last decade has seen each of the four major Boston sports teams win a world championship. The Patriots have won three, the Red Sox two, the Celtics and now the Bruins one each. And oddly enough, the team that has now gone the longest without a world title here in Boston is the Patriots. The Golden Age of Boston sports just keeps on going.

Each of the four coaches of our New England teams has now won a title with that team. That is something that has seldom – and perhaps never – happened before in any city. Fans who are now accustomed to this level of success have to realize just how spoiled they have become, and how lucky they are to be here for this period of unprecedented success.

I grew up in the 1960s when the Boston Celtics won nine of 10 world titles. But they stood alone at that time in terms of local success. The Patriots were a joke, the Bruins experiencing the worst period in their history and the Red Sox, until 1967, known as the lovable losers. The Bruins brought home the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1972, but that begin a 39 year drought that only ended Wednesday night.

Enjoy this period, folks. You may never see a time like this again. You younger fans might think this is just the way things are here, but those of us who have been around a while can tell you this is a special period in our history. We have seen and continue to enjoy some of the greatest teams in the world, and that is something not everyone gets to do up close.

I admit to being somewhat of a casual Bruins fan, but this run was so much fun to watch. This team drew us all in, and again made us realize we are a part of something special. Even those who are not sports fans have to appreciate the relief and entertainment these local franchises have provided us.

Congratulations to the Boston Bruins, the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions. It’s just a great time to be a New England sports fan.
