Soccer Banquet Rewards Seniors
The boys and girls soccer teams had their banquet last Tuesday, honoring players.
"Never take anything for granted. It goes by so quickly," player Keegan Campbell advised to his teammates at the Norton Boys and Girls Soccer banquet Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Norton High School Cafeteria.
During this dinner for the players, friends and family, coach Eric Greene of the boys squad and coach Todd Kefor for the girls gave speeches congratulating their players, with special attention given to the seniors who played their last seasons at Norton High.
Seated at the head table, the seniors were the main focus of the banquet, and they definitely had some fond memories of their playing days at Norton. Such as when the senior boys forked Greene's lawn. They placed 3,184 forks in his lawn, a process that took the boys 45 minutes, leaving a large NHS in his front yard. There was also the time that the girls' squad decorated their junior varsity coach's car for her wedding.
Awards were given out by the coaches for various accomplishments. Some of the notable awards were the Most Valuable Player and Coach's Award, which were both given to Campbell for the boys' squad. Campbell had nine goals this past season, was a Tri-Valley League (TVL) All-Star and has received several scholarship offers for soccer next year.
Senior Captain Jill Wry (sweeper) was given the MVP award for the girls' squad. Wry was a TVL all-star and never missed one minute of any game. Julie Aussuvel (defense) was given the Coach's award. Coach Kefor described Aussuvel as the perfect stopper.
"She is one of a kind. She cannot be replaced," Kefor said.
The senior captains also talked about their plans for the future and thoughts they had on the season.
"The year went well. I wish we could have gone farther, but I am proud of everyone," said senior captain Brianna Valeri.
Valeri is planning on going to a state school next year to study special needs; she would like to be a teacher or an aid.
Fellow senior captain Justin Iadarola is thinking about going to Villanova where he wants to study dentistry.
"Thanks for the whole team for a good season," Iadarola said.
After awards were given out, a video of the year was shown for all of the players and their families. The banquet was put together by the Norton boys and girls soccer boosters, with special thanks given to boys soccer president Karen Ricca.
