Parks and Rec Thank Community Participation in Festival of Lights
Parks and Recreation chair Sheri Cohen calls turnout tremendous.
On behalf of the Norton Parks and Recreation Department, we would like to thank the community for participating in a fun family night this past Sunday at our Festival of Lights. The turnout was tremendous, due to the warmer weather.
We would also like to thank our sponsors: North Easton Savings Bank, Roche Bros. Supermarkets and Honey Dew Donuts. Without their support this event would not be possible. Also a big thank you to Santa and Mrs. Claus, Bob Kimball, Master of Ceremonies; Tim Brown, singer; The Norton Singers, Rev. Bernie Hinkley, Trinitarian Church; Rev. Christana McKnight, Unitarian Church; The Martial Arts Connection for volunteering to help set up/clean up; Girl Scout Junior Troop 80492 and their leaders Mrs. Beth Burke and Mrs. Paula Sharkey for being Santa’s elves; Orsi Photographers; Jett Jam Entertainment; Norton Community Lions Club; Norton Fire Department; Norton Police Department and the Norton Highway Department. In years past they were called CHRISTMAS lights on the Town Common. There was also a Manger scene, and a Menorah. Now it's called a Festival of Lights with no Manger or Menorah. It's a little disappointing, guess Norton has gone the way of Berkeley California and San Francisco with it's Political Correctness. That being said, I'll still say Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year.

Just want to clarify that since I have volunteered to run the parks and rec department, the only name I have known for this event is the Festival of Lights. I did not grow up in Norton so if it was called something else, I would welcome that information. Also it was my understanding that some of our local firemen have volunteered (on their own time) to put up the menorah and manger. Unfortunately due to the passing of their Captain and the Worcester firefighter, they have been preoccupied this year. This was not done intentionally (to my knowledge) and was not done to be disrespectful. Going forward if you or someone you know might be able to help me with this, that would be appreciated. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks to all those who made the effort to get the Manger scene, and Menorah added to the Christmas/Holiday display on the common!
