Ruth M. Scott, 100, of Norton, passed away Dec. 12, 2012.
Ruth M. Scott, 100, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.
Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada Aug. 22, 1912 she was daughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth (Bryson) Scott.
Her family moved to Norton when she was 2 years old. She was a graduate of Norton High School and the Hubbard Business School.
Prior to retiring, Ruth worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at the former Norton Center Garage, a business owned and operated by her family in the center of town for many years.
She had previously been employed in the same capacities at the L.G. Balfour Co. in Attleboro, the Robinson-Rayon Co. in Providence and for the Newcomb Home later known as the Daggett Crandall Newcomb Home in Norton.
She loved gardening, especially growing roses and tomatoes, and the beauty of her beautiful wild flower garden. Another favorite part of her life were the trips to her families cape house in Falmouth and taking in the beauty of the ocean and refreshing sea breezes.
Ruth’s family was the essence of her life and she enjoyed visiting relatives from near and as far away as California and Canada.
She leaves her two nieces; six nephews; and many great nieces and nephews as well as many great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings John B., Hugh, Andrew, Malcolm and Roy Scott, Anne Dillon and Ruby Eddleston.
Private funeral services will be held in the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Center Cemetery, Norton.
