Obituary: Olive C. Niven
Memorial service and visiting hours to be held Sunday, Oct. 28.
Olive C. (Clark) Niven, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton after a short period of failing health.
Born in Miami, Fla., she was raised and educated in Miami and Attleboro. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1940. She attended Skidmore College and was a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Olive was a resident of Foxborough for the past six years, previously living in Ipswich for eight years and Wellesley for over 20 years. She worked in the library at Wellesley College then in the admissions Office at Wheaton College and finally at Blackintons in Attleboro for several years. Olive was an active member of the Second Congregational Church in Attleboro, where she was a member of various womens clubs and sewing groups and a former member of the First Congregational Church of Wellesley Hills. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Olive is survived by her children David C. Niven and his wife Debra of California, Andrew L. Niven and his wife Aniceta of Guam and the Rev. Jean Lenk, pastor of First Congregational Church Stoughton and her husband Peter of Foxborough; her grandchildren Kimberly and Douglas Niven, Nancy Davis, David L., Whitney, Sarah and Albert Niven and Elizabeth and Ian Sangster; her great-grandchildren of Ethan, Tyler and Olivia Davis and Nyjah Niven; and her niece and nephew Linda Kammerer of Marblehead and Jack Sinclair of England. She was preceded in death by her neice Jane Sargeant and her siblings Eloise Levis and Virginia Sinclair.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 76 Pierce St., Stoughton, MA 02072. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the fireplace room at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Olives memory may be made to the First Congregational Church at the above address.
