Norton Shutout by Medfield in Girls' Soccer Season Opener
Norton fell to defending Division 2 state champion Medfield to open the 2011 season Tuesday.
The Lancers surrendered two goals to Medfield in under three minutes nearly midway through the first half and despite improved play in the second half, could not push any scoring chances past Medfield goalkeeper Mimi Borkan and the Warriors' defense.
"[Norton] played pretty well," said Medfield head coach Michael La Francesca. "I thought we possessed a little bit more of the game than they did. It was just a little bit different style but [Norton] was a very strong team and I knew coming into this game that we had to control on offense and make sure the least amount of opportunities we can give them the best it would be for us and I think that’s what we did and we were able to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish."
Medfield controlled the ball and tempo of play for the majority of the first half, limiting the Lancers' scoring chances while the Warriors capitalized on two of their own. Ali Gold and Ellie Siino netted goals for Medfield.
Norton will look to bounce back on the road against Dover-Sherborn Friday at 6:45 p.m.
