Norton Senior Awarded Honey Dew Scholarship
Joel Sitte recognized at annual Honey Dew Donuts Scholarship awards breakfast.
Each year Honey Dew Donuts awards more than $25,000 in scholarship money to graduating high school seniors from Honey Dew Donuts franchise communities throughout New England. This year, Norton resident and high school senior Joel Sitte is one of approximately 100 area students selected to receive a 2012 Honey Dew Donuts Scholarship of $250.
Sitte is a graduating senior from Norton High School. He will be attending the Digipen Institute of Technology in the fall. To be eligible for the scholarship, Sitte had to demonstrate academic excellence by maintaining a grade point average of B- or better, be accepted into a four-year accredited college or university, and participate in community service activities.
As an award recipient, Sitte was honored at the 10th annual Honey Dew Donuts Scholarship Breakfast and Awards Ceremony Saturday, June 2 at the Sheraton Needham.
All scholarship winners and their parents were treated to a special Honey Dew Donuts breakfast where Honey Dew Donuts founder Richard Bowen personally awarded the scholarships to the students. In addition, scholarship winners who attended the award ceremony were entered to win one of three additional scholarship awards in the amount of $500, $1,000 and $1,500.
“With shops throughout New England, our Scholarship Program has a wide reach within Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire,” Bown said. “We’re happy to be able to help so many deserving students in our local communities offset the cost of books and other expenses as they begin their college careers.”
Honey Dew Donuts has awarded more $225,000 to over 800 graduating high school seniors in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island since the inception of the company’s scholarship program in 1999.
