Norton Police Department responded to 186 reports between Saturday, Jan. 22 and Friday, Jan. 28. With all the snow, police and plow drivers have been keeping busy. Evidence of that is an accident that happened Friday, Jan. 28 when a plow driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a pole. This is an abridged version of the police log.
Saturday, Jan. 22
12:02 a.m.: Village Way, suspicious condition. Report of a group of youths riding a boogie board attached to the back of a car up and down the street.
8:15 a.m.: E. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Bernie & Phyll’s box truck slid on ice in the parking lot and hit someone's personal vehicle. Less than $1,000 in damages.
2:17 p.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. No injuries.
Sunday, Jan. 23
4:31 a.m.: Leonard Street, motor vehicle accident. Car off the road and into woods. Towed.
8:32 a.m.: E. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Car into snow bank.
1:37 p.m.: E. Main Street, breaking and entering of a residence. Caller reported that her back door was smashed open, unsure if anything was taken yet.
6:40 p.m.: E. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Two-car accident at Route 495 overpass.
8:05 p.m.: Mansfield Avenue, assisted the fire department. Smoke in residence. Fire in ceiling of the basement.
Monday, Jan. 24
5:56 p.m.: Mansfield Avenue, general disturbance. Caller reported a fight between two males.
Tuesday, Jan. 25
12:45 p.m.: W. Main Street, two-car vehicle accident.
4:14 p.m.: Holly Road, fraud/embezzlement. Report of credit card fraud.
6:03 p.m.: Plain Street, assisted the fire department. Report of a strong smell of burning rubber in the house. Command reported holding all companies while investigating a burnt motor in the furnace. Smell caused by overheated motor in air handler, it's been shut down. Homeowner has been advised and will be notifying heating company.
8:07 p.m.: N. Washington Street, motor vehicle accident. Caller reported a pickup truck off road into snow just past the Route 495 overpass. Moderate damage to rear drivers quarter and front end and the engine was overheating.
8:19 p.m.: S. Washington Street, suspicious condition. Caller wishing to remain anonymous reports her friend received text messages from another friend stating that he was at a hotel in Norton and was drinking bleach and alcohol. Extended Stay does not have anyone by that name registered. Description released. Clerk did not recall anyone matching that description checking in today. Verizon Law Enforcement Resources was contacted and they advised that the number belonged to Nextel. Sprint Security was called and they provided coordinates and a location of Monticello Street between Lee Court and Snell Place. Coordinates accurate within 5 meters. Information was forwarded to Brockton Police.
8:49 p.m.: N. Washington Street. Police arrested Paul F. Deegan Jr., 42, of N. Washington Street, and charged him with a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor.
Wednesday, Jan. 26
11:35 a.m.: E. Main Street/Carpenter Road. Police arrested Frank E. Williamson, 39, of Mansfield Avenue, and charged him operation of a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker and a suspended license.
12:53 p.m.: E. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Vehicle off the road and into a snow bank.
Thursday, Jan. 27
12:22 a.m.: E. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Two-vehicle crash with fluid leak. Vehicle towed.
5:49 a.m.: W. Main Street, assisted the fire department. State Highway plow driver reported a male party in the driveway having a epileptic seizure. Rescue transported to hospital.
11:14 a.m.: W. Main/S. Worcester Street, motor vehicle accident. No injuries.
8:31 p.m.: Lincoln Street, motor vehicle accident. Less than $1,000 in damages, no injuries. Happened in driveway of group home.
Friday, Jan. 28
2:16 a.m.: E. Main Street, assisted Mansfield Police Department.
7:25 a.m.: Newcomb Street, two-car accident. No injuries.
9:12 a.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Several callers reported a multiple car accident. No injuries and a small fluid leak. Two vehicles towed.
10:06 a.m. E. Main Street, identity theft.
10:42 a.m.: E. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. No injuries. More than $1,000 in damages.
11:17 a.m.: W. Main Street, larceny. Report of a runoff with approximately $75 worth of property.
2:13 p.m.: Dean Street, domestic disturbance.
4:28 p.m.: Mansfield Avenue, motor vehicle accident. Two-car accident with an injury and fluid leaks. One transported to hospital.
11:29 p.m.: Eddy Street, motor vehicle accident. Taunton Police Department reported that they have a plow driver who said he fell asleep at the wheel on John Scott Boulevard and may have hit something. Pole found with no significant damage, but National Grid may want to check it in the morning.
