Cathy Luke, the new principal at  , has come full circle. Luke grew up in Norton and worked for 23 years in the Berkeley school system before coming back to Norton. She primarily taught third grade in Berkeley and was an assistant principal as well.

“I always wanted to be a teacher from the time I was a kid,” Luke said. “It was a dream of mine.”

Luke did her undergraduate work at Framingham State University, now Framingham State College, in elementary education and got her master’s degree in school administration from Endicott College

Luke replaces Danielle Klingaman at L.G. Nourse. Her first week at the school “has been very smooth,”  she said, attributing the smooth transition to the school staff. “We’re all teachers here whether you’re the principal or a teacher or a custodian. Everything is a learning opportunity.

“People here have been so supportive.”

Luke said that the opportunity to work as principal looked like a good fit for her after her experience in Berkeley.

“I have a good background in early education,” she said. “Danielle gave me my first tour of the school. I want to keep an open line of communication with the staff, to be visible and approachable.

“I’d really like to see the school continue to be a community where parents and teachers can work together with the kids being the focal point. I’m really happy with all the support I’ve received here. People have been very welcoming.”
