Norton Boys Track Remains Undefeated

Lancers improve to 4-0 with impressive home win over TVL foe Medway on Tuesday.

The Norton High boys’ outdoor track team continued the terrific start to its season, remaining undefeated with an impressive 110-26 victory over Medway in a Tri-Valley League meet on a warm Tuesday afternoon at Adams Field.

The victory improved the Lancers to 4-0, the team having opened the year with wins over Dover-Sherborn, Holliston and Bellingham. It was the third time that they have surpassed 100 points, having scored 108 against the Raiders and 104 against the Blackhawks.

The Lancers swept four events on Tuesday, including the 400-meter hurdles, the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the javelin. Norton won 15 of the 16 events overall, jumping out to an 18-0 advantage and later taking leads of 44-6, 68-9, 76-10 and 90-14.

“It was an exciting win,” said Norton coach Kent Taylor, whose team beat the Mustangs a year ago, 82-53. “They are a powerful school that is good in track. I was thrilled to beat a team like that by this much. It is a testament to all the work the guys are putting in.

“It has been an unbelievable season so far. And I’m not surprised with what we have accomplished. I knew the kids were capable. It was just a matter of them stepping up and doing it and they have done that.”

Senior captain Tim Johansmeyer continued his perfect season, remaining undefeated in three events. He captured the 400 with a time of 54.3 seconds. Johansmeyer also won the long jump with a distance of 19-8 and the triple jump with a leap of 40-7. He has scored an incredible total of 60 points during the first four meets of the season.

Senior captain Keegan Campbell remained undefeated in two events, winning the 800 (2:06.5) and the high jump (5-4). He was also second in the triple jump (36-9).

Junior Ben Donovan also captured a pair of events, tying teammate and classmate Ramzi Bechara for first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 63.3 seconds. Ryan Lapadula, also a junior, was third in the event in 63.4 seconds. Donovan and Bechara also captured the top two spots in the 110 high hurdles, each running a time of 16.6 seconds.

Senior captain Jon Sicard won the 200 with a time of 23.7 seconds with junior Scott Coleman (24.9) placing second and classmate Brian Acker (25.6) finishing third.

Sicard was also second in both the 100 meters (11.6) and the long jump (17-6). Cody Powers finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 12 seconds.

Senior captain Shawn Ferrini won two events, capturing the shot put with a distance of 41-6 and the javelin with a toss of 139-6. Joey Hallgren (129-9) was second in the javelin and sophomore Joe Colley (129-6) finished third.

Junior Brian Gannon was first in the 100 (11.3) and classmate Kevin Rogers placed first in the mile (5:08). Freshman Cam Eisnor (11:19.2) won the two mile. Kevin O’Leary, Gannon, Powers and Coleman captured the 4x100 relay (46.7).  Tyler Anderson, sophomores Mason Roulliard and Dan Lenihan and Rogers won the 4x400 relay (3:55).

“We are very, very balanced throughout every event this year, especially the throwing events, and it has taken a few years to get to this point," Taylor said. "Our strength in the throws has taken us to the next level this year. The team has really come together. We have depth in every event and strength throughout all the classes.”

Norton will look to continue its winning ways when the team travels to Ashland to battle the Clockers in a TVL Meet on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
