New Testament Hosts Special Guests for Veteran's Day
SFC Hector Lopez and former Marine Marianne Cabral visit classrooms at Christian school in Norton.
Students at New Testament Christian School recently welcomed special visitors in honor of Veteran’s Day.
SFC Hector Lopez, an Army Recruiter from Taunton, came to Jennifer DeAguiar’s second and third grade class and read "Dubs Goes to Washington and Discovers the Greatness of America," written by Dick Morris, Eileen McGann and Clayton J. Liotta. The children were captivated as he read the story. When the story was over, Lopez talked about what it means to be a veteran, both past and present, and the importance of the veterans on a level that the students were able to understand. When he was finished with his presentation, the children had an opportunity to ask him questions about his career in the Army, his family and Jesus. The children’s favorite part of the afternoon was the army memorabilia that he brought for everyone.
Marianne Cabral, mother for fourth grader Rachel, visited the Grade 4 classroom wearing her "Dress Blues." Cabral served in the Marine Corps for four years, achieving Corporal status. She worked air wing on KC-130 aircraft.
The students were in awe as she explained the history of the Marine Corps, while displaying ribbons, badges and Corporal stripes that she earned during her career in the Marines. Cabral explained to the students what each one represented, and how one earned or achieved them.
The class all joined in singing a chorus of "From The Halls of Montezuma," the Marines Corps Hymn, and the students had a time for questions and answers which moved some to say "I'm going to be a Marine someday!"
“What a blessing it is to instill such desires and values in our future generation, while teaching them to appreciate all that the Veterans have done for us in the past”, said fourth grade teacher Cheryl Donais.
A special elementary chapel was held in honor of Veteran’s day.
New Testament Christian School thanks Cabral, Lopez and NTCS parents and alumni for their service to our country.
