Lyons Compete In Tri-Meet With Springfield And Keene State
R. Jenkins posts a pair of third place finishes for Wheaton
The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Springfield College and Keene State College earlier this afternoon at the Art Linkletter Natatorium. The men's squad dropped both sides of the tri-meet falling to Springfield, 235-63, and Keene State, 230-58. The women lost to the Pride, 247-44, and the Owls, 246-39.
On the men's side, sophomore Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow)earned third place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke to highlight the Lyons efforts in the pool. Jenkins swam a time of 56.74-seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and compiled a time of 2:05.11 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Jenkins also teamed up with freshmen Daniel Spencer (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and Jeremy Zak (Clifton, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) and junior Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) for a fourth place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In the 50-yard freestyle, E. Jenkins finished third overall in 22.66-seconds and seventh overall in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.08). SophomoreNick Fredette (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) checked in at sixth overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.01.
On the women's side, seniors Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty), sophomoreCara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) and senior Elle Van Cott (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) raced to a fifth place finish in a total time of 1:57.86 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Auguer also turned in a seventh place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.33) while Isaacs placed eighth overall in the event in 1:14.46.
In the 100-yard butterfly, freshmen Courtney Leach (Gilford, N.H./Gilford) and Helen Grant (Suffield, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School) ranked fifth and sixth, respectively. Leach posted a time of 1:03.98 while Grant had a time of 1:04.52.
Wheaton returns to action on Friday, Nov. 30 at the MIT Invitational at 6:30 p.m.
