Lancers Nail Track Season Opener

Norton boys won 108-28, while Lancer girls defeated D-S 99-37.

 

Norton track came out on top against Dover-Sherborn. Norton boys won 108-28, while the lady Lancers beat D-S 99-37.

“It was a great first meet,” said Norton head coach Kent Taylor. “The boys took 13 out of 16 first places in the meet and won both relays soundly.”

Twenty-four athletes on the boys' side scored for the Lancers. Tim Johansmeyer led the charge with a perfect 15-point day, placing first in all three of his events, triple jump, long jump and 400. Ben Donovan was awarded 11 points, placing first in the 110 hurdles, and second in the 400 hurdles and triple jump.

In his first varsity meet of his high school career, Max Marcotte placed first in the 2-mile.

Although D-S lost to Norton, they had several highlights as well. Sophomore Olivia Cannon won the 2-mile in 12:30.6 in her first distance race of her career. Sophomore Lee Milne came away with a win in the 800m in 2:38.2 and third place finish in the 2-mile in 13:03.2. Senior Sarah Warden won the 200m in 29.0 and senior Lizzie Briskin won the mile in 6:19.8.

“On the boys' side, seniors Stephen O'Connor and Mike Rudin won the high jump (6') and javelin (133'3"), respectively, while freshman Dan Carroll won the discus in his first high school meet (119'11.5"),” said first time head coach Christa Hutchinson. “Senior Will Bain finished second in the 100m (11.5) and third in the long jump (17'10") and junior Teddy Mosher placed second in the mile (5:06.8) and third in the 2-mile (11:35.2).”

Norton's next contest will be against Holliston High School 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 11 at Holliston. Dover-Sherborn will next face Westwood in an away game Monday, 3:30 p.m.
