Two Firefighters Injured in Norton House Fire

The fire destroys one side of a home on Buttonwod Road.

Two firefighters were sent to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro for treatment of back injuries after they fell down the stairs in a burning home on Buttonwood Road in Norton.

Capt. Benton Keene of the Norton Fire Department said the fire destroyed much of one side of the single-family home, which is located next to a wooded area at the end of the short road off Reservoir Street.

The department received a call about the fire shortly before 6 p.m., Keene said. It was quickly controlled. Firefighters were still putting out a few hotspots at 9 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Keene said it appears, preliminarily, the blaze started outside the home.
