Driver in Route 123 Accident Pronounced Dead
Cause of collision still under investigation.
William Lozeau, of Norton, was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital Tuesday following an accident on Route 123.
The 50-year-old W. Main Street resident hit a town plow truck head on near St. Mary's Church. The driver of the plow, Rhode Island resident George Guptill, was travelling in the eastbound lane when Lozeau came from the opposite direction into that lane. Norton Firefighter Robert Crowley was nearby, clearing snow from hydrants, and responded to the scene, attending to Lozeau. Lozeau was transported to Sturdy Memorial by the Norton Rescue.
Guptill was not cited in the accident.
The cause of the collision is under investigation by Norton Police Seargeant Robert Whitfield and Detective Jeffrey Zaccardi. They are being assisted by the State Police Collision Analysis Trooper Paul Chastenay.
The accident caused the road to be closed for about an hour and a half.
Mansfield Fire Department assisted Norton by providing station coverage during the incident.
