Chabad Jewish Center Sponsors Chanukah On The Green
Event included lighting of the menorah and traditional Chanukah song and dance.
On the sixth night of Chanukah, Dec. 6, the Chabad Jewish Center sponsored its second annual menorah lighting and Chanukah Celebration on the Norton Town Green.
It was a cold night, with temperatures around 30 degrees. There was even a very light snowfall during the event. But the weather did not dampen the mood, as children and adults got together to dance, sing traditional Chanukah songs and eat foods such as Sufganiyot, also known as Israeli donuts, Chanukah gelt, chocolate coins and drink hot cocoa.
"It's always not enough to be warm on your own," said Rabbi Yossi Kivman. "Don't just put on a coat. Warm up everyone else around you. Light a fire. Tonight we are going to light a fire, and with the help of you guys, we are going to do that."
Among guests were selectmen Bradford Bramwell, Mary Steele, Timothy Giblin and Robert Kimball. State Representative Jay Barrows also attended the event.
"Thank you to the selectmen for helping out over here with this menorah. And not only helping out behind the scenes, but coming and joining us in the freezing cold," Kivman said.
The 7-foot menorah will be on display throughout the Chanukah holiday, which ends on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 9.
