Area Families Get Outdoors
Attleboro YMCA hosts free Get Outdoors! Day event in Norton.
On Saturday, April 16, the Attleboro YMCA encouraged all kids and parents in Attleboro and Norton to come to the Y’s Norton Outdoor Center for Get Outdoors! Day. The free event took place at the Y’s Norton Outdoor Center, located at 290 W. Main St.
The event was part of the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day – the nation’s largest health day for families. The Y holds Healthy Kids Day to teach healthy habits to kids and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity. Nationally, Healthy Kids Day is supported by the Dodge brand, PepsiCo and Sam’s Club. Healthy Kids Day will be celebrated at nearly 1,600 Ys across the country, with more than 700,000 families expected to attend this year.
The Attleboro Y’s staff will offer activities and presentations about how to stay active, healthy and happy as a family this summer – from group exercise programs like BodyAttack, to gymnastics obstacle courses and games offered by the Y’s summer camp staff.
The Attleboro Y also hosted representatives from a number of community partners who offered additional activities for the whole family. Staff from the Massachusetts Audubon Oak Knoll and Attleboro Springs sanctuaries led guided nature hikes through the fields and woodlands of the Y’s 80-acre recreational facility. The Norton Fire Department provided information about summer safety while offering kids a chance to explore one of the department trucks. Trinity Bar & Restaurant presented a seminar and recipes about healthy snacks, while Norton Kayak Company was on site with dry-land activities about boating safety.
