Wheaton Women's Soccer Team Earns NSCAA Academic Award
Lyons earned a 3.20 grade point average in the classroom
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team has been recognized for its performance in the classroom by receiving a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.
The Lyons posted a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (GPA) for the 2011-12 academic year joining 717 college soccer programs (220 men, 497 women) in earning an NSCAA Team Academic Award. In order to qualify, any team listed must compile a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Wheaton, who is one of four women's soccer programs in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to be recognized, advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history this season. The Lyons (18-2-6, 7-1-1 NEWMAC) also made their 13th-straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament this fall after earning a pair of wins at home on Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11 against Westfield State University (1-0, OT) and #9 Williams College (1-0).
The NSCAAA was founded in 1941 and is based in Kansas City, Kansas. The NSCAA is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate coaches, encourage excellence and serve the soccer community. It is the world’s largest soccer coaches’ organization with members at every level of the game. The membership is primarily made up of coaches, but also includes administrators, referees and others in the soccer industry. The NSCAA provides its members ways to enhance the game of soccer by providing a national education program, interaction and networking opportunities, and membership benefits.
